Canadian Grand Prix Race Weekend Thread - Lemmy

# Welcome Hello everyone and welcome to the Canadian Grand Prix Weekend thread. Details about this race can be found here [https://liquipedia.net/formula1/Main_Page]. ## Sessions This thread will cover all the sessions this weekend, so that’s all 3 practice sessions, qualifying, and the race. We will monitor how this goes to see if we need more granularity. ## Spoilers The rules around spoilers are not yet in place, therefore we won’t be enforcing anything around spoilers this weekend. This goes beyond the scope of this thread too. If you do not want spoilers, please do not look in this community this weekend. The aim is to have a finished set of rules ready by mid next week.

Oooh I do love a wet qualifying!
It is so great to see lap times improve every lap.
Nando win please!
He got so unlucky last time. Let's hope the team got some good data from their upgrades kicking in!
What’s great weekend. Canadian GP, US Open, and the Ashes. F in the chat for my wife and kids’ TV time please.
For those of us in Canada I hope one day we get coverage without Ads... That's my favorite part of the US GP weekends. :D
Does Canada not get access to the F1 TV app?

Edit: All session times are not matching across F1's website and the schedule shown at the end of the Weekend Warm-Up. Differences from F1 website to Weekend Warm-Up session times (track time) are as follows:

P1: 13:30 > 13:15

P2: 17:00 > 16:45

P3: 12:30 > 12:15

The session times do not match with weekend warmup because F1TVs coverage of practice sessions now includes a 15-minute preshow. 13:30, 17:00, and 12:30 local time are the correct times.

I'm liking these liquipedia pages, so much context. Plus the session times posted there.

Rawe ceek, here we come!

Thanks to the mods for making this thread!

Hoping for a good race, though it's bit late in the evening for us Europeans

Anyone aware of any communities similar to r/motorsportsreplays or r/motorsportssteams?
I’m not aware of any communities yet, but I’d recommend taking a look at SportSurge. Easy enough to use, and should have streams for F1 sessions.
Yeah I'm aware of sportsurge, can never seem to find an F1 Live commentary stream though.
BBC 5 Live has radio commentary of F1
Interesting, I’ve used it for years for full seasons and never missed a session. Just be sure to use the new V2 version. Best of luck!
To clarify I meant F1TV's commentary, plenty of sky streams on there though.

well, we have [email protected] and the other communities on that page.
should be quite receptive for linking streams.

just make one, if we don't find an existing one!

/e: either I am, or kbin is currently being stupid with the link above, but this:

should get you the idea

Notice

We shall be banning discussion around F1 piracy in this community next week.

We will not take any actions until the rules are posted in their entirety in the sidebar.

I look forward to McLaren raising my hopes, and then dashing them quite expertly.
Gutted for both Lando and Oscar though, would love to see them in the mix.

how do y'all feel about race weekends with these later than usual session start times?

I hate them, give me my 8-9am sessions!
How about you Euros/Asians? Are these times better or worse?

As an American, I greatly dislike the later times when races are on this side of the world. I don't mind waking up like 6,7,8am or whatever to watch a session. Or even staying up very late til like 4am. Even on Fridays for FP1 and FP2.

Idk, I like getting F1 "out of the way" so to speak, then I can do whatever else I need to do for rest of the day.

Like right now, it's 12:30p for me. That's not terrible since it's lunch time. But FP2 is at like 4pm; I tend to take a nap around then. If I was still working from the office, I'd be leaving the office around then.

European here, if I don't have anything planned for the weekend, I love them. If I plan a night out on Saturday, I hate them. Right now, I love it.
there's nothing better than going to bed after being let down by ferrari
Honestly, I much prefer the later times
Ouch, not a great start for Alpine there...
Red flag. Gasly stopped on track, with a broken driveshaft
The track is clear, but the red flag is taking a long time.
@jalda there’s no power on some of the track
monaco marshalls would have cleared the track in a couple of seconds by raising that car by hands
Oh why am I not surprised it's Alpine with a failure within 3 minutes of FP1 starting?
What an action-packed FP1!
Edge of the seat stuff!
RIP Ferrari engine :(
🟥 Red flag. Hülkenberg with engine issues
🟩 Green flag. This one has been a bit shorter.
Sky spending a lot of time showing us this corner...
Probably allowing Russell time to figure out how to maximise options lol

FIA: It's raining

Drivers: It's not raining

2 minutes later: Track is flooding
It’s Russell sweat.
🌧️ It's raining in part of the circuit

"There's a surprising number of cars out there, considering this is approaching biblical"

  • Alex Jaques

"Good weather for a duck"

  • Valtteri Bottas
Oh boy, really hoping Alpine are just getting their mechanical issues out of the way before the race. Not a good sign with both cars bringing out the red flags...
This is gonna be epic or a red flag fest
It’s not a race weekend until there’s some Ferrari drama
Q1, everyone on inters
Which should be great fun!
Zhou got a curse on him damn.
Technical issues for Zhou, that was quick
Wonder what the issue is. Hopefully he can recover tomorrow...
Already solved
Must have still fucked with his pace. Starting 20th is better than from the pits at least.
That rejoin from De Vries is kinda spicy. Hope nothing bad happens during the race.
That wall is going to create chaos if somebody doesn't make the corner.
