When I was young, my dad's workplace, a prepress house, was full of beige PowerMacs of different shapes/sizes, and CRT iMacs, all running OS 9. But there was a single QuickSilver PowerMac G4, on OS X, airdropped from the future, alien, intimidating, beautiful, on a central desk to itself — nobody actually used it day to day, it was there to test software/workflows for years leading up to the OS X transition. It made quite an impression on me. I am reminded of that Mac when I think of Vision Pro
@stroughtonsmith I felt the same way about the QuickSilver when I first got my hands on one. A nostalgic eBay purchase later, It now houses a Mac Mini inside for the sheer hell of it.
@stroughtonsmith the G4 was beautiful. Textures and colours can make such a difference. The shape wasn’t so different from a G3 but it *feels* special
@stroughtonsmith the media department at my high school had the same thing with a lampshade iMac running OS X that everyone was too scared to use. “Don’t touch it! Don’t even look at it!”
@stroughtonsmith When I was a kid my dad’s main work computer was this beautiful blue PowerMac G3 with upgrades.. I remember thinking how cool this computer was
@stroughtonsmith I worked on one of those many years ago… doing prepress. 😃
