I'm interested in, but don't practice, Jewish meditation. Except maybe I do? Hitbodedut is a form of Jewish meditation & prayer where you talk directly to God about whatever. Anything. Like Tevye on the road in Fiddler. But do it often in an empty place. I do this and love it.
In Likutei Moharan Rebbe Nachman of Breslov said "Hitbodedut…means to set aside an hour to seclude herself in a room or field & to have express herself in dialogue with her Creator, with claims, words of favor &… that God should bring her close to God's service
The idea of spontaneous prayer like this dates back further “R. Elazar said: When one who makes their prayer fixed, their prayer is not [truly] supplication… Rabbah & Rabbi Yosef both said: this refers to all who are unable to find a new element in their prayer.” (Berahot 29b).
