Richard@AmyDentata @mariafarrell I think @pluralistic’s concept of “enshittification” explains this well. It’s an active process of corporations abusing two-sided markets rather than passive decay due to neglect.

maintaining is less valued than creating, taxation regimes incentivise and markets value capital spending over labour, and how public utilities are sold to private sector, loaded with debt and run down so we're all now literally swimming in shit.
enshittification plugs into all of those ideas - its critique goes wider than just two-sided markets.
