"the genuine human experience is to be both animal and owner"

god DAMN if that isn't some deep shit

@nerdybutcute

I've always said I'd do anything to lose weight...except diet...or exercise. 🤷‍♀️

@VHasch @nerdybutcute (I’m literally sending official submissions to a Senate committee about this, but) I’d like you to know that some drugs / “medicines” with maybe-unfair reputations, have lovely side effects of weight loss. Not exactly a secret, being a joke within the illicit & recreational community. But as a straight-laced soul who understandably had no interest in drug culture at the age when most of my friends learned and discussed this side of life, I might be a little entitled to feel cheated by the strict rules and society’s expectations. Some things in life *were* meant to be easy…easier, than we make them. (And I have an almost complete set of white-cishet privileges — so it may be more reason to be surprised to find unnecessary burdens, not less)

@whophd @nerdybutcute

I'm old enough to remember doctors handing out amphetamines like candy for weight loss. Then, the "health food" industry promoted one scam after another for decades. Now they're pushing a much more expensive drug for weight loss that leaves people with sagging glutes, the loss is so fast. (Better than the leaking butt its predecessor causes.)

I'm counting on not being able to afford food from now on to solve my problem. You know, the North Korea diet.

@VHasch @nerdybutcute Oh okay, (I'm happily ignorant as biology is not My Main Thing) so that's interesting! We've actually got the magic cure we were wondering about in the 1980s and 1990s? Sagging glutes is "a good problem to have", yes? Oh I think I know the predecessor thing which wasn't changing metabolism rates at all. (I still think theocratic ideology is the bigger problem here).
@nerdybutcute My Daily Draw this morning: VIII Strength. "You are both the lion tamer and the lion..."
@nerdybutcute The form-drive compels the homo faber to ownership, to accountability. The animal laborans suffers the sense-drive to retreat. The two are reconciled, as in play-drive, by a meme.
@nerdybutcute We domesticated ourselves, as they say.
@nerdybutcute Fuuuuck, I feel seen and it's making my fur stand up and my back arch :P
@nerdybutcute pretty sure that's what Rousseau argued for. "Man is free and yet everywhere in chains," as I understand it doesn't mean we're slaves, but rather that we should take hold of our chains and use them to better ourselves.

@nerdybutcute @arclight

system 1 animal, system 2 owner

@nerdybutcute
Literally had this this week.

Was slipping into depression, and the answers were "stop eating junk, go for walks, and get to sleep before midnight"
@hopeluminous

@Anarkat @nerdybutcute @hopeluminous Sleeping enough does help, but the particular times are completely arbitrary.

Food only helps insofar as you actually have nutritional deficiencies or have significant exposure to endochrine disruptors... as for walks, I think that given my allergies that'd actively contribute to depression and misery instead.

In summer I basically need a respirator like I'm going out into the Zone.

@lispi314
Good thing I'm talking about problems I've recognized and addressed with my own body and how I relate to my own environment, if I was talking about things that would be helpful for you with your body, sounds like I'd be really wrong.
@nerdybutcute @hopeluminous
@nerdybutcute @seldo related truth: I like to joke how my pet “takes after his daddy”, when I admit he annoys me in 1 or 2 ways I annoyed my parents. Treating the house like a hotel and never saying hello.
@nerdybutcute me meanwhile only animal
@nerdybutcute @Aepasek They have it the wrong way round: the cat is the real owner.
@nerdybutcute Off topic, but I read this as “fuck 0xffffff”
@nerdybutcute
human existence under capitalism is akin to domestication
