As I was going to bed last night, CBC radio ran a show about overpopulation and it...wasn't good. I kept listening for rebuttals or mentions of wealth inequality, and they existed, but only as a breezy aside "some experts don't think overpopulation is a concern, but here are some more breezy opinions that say it is."
They literally brought up Malthus, talked about his scary idea, briefly mentioned that malthus was wrong, but then have their "expert" say "he might have been wrong in the past, but what if he's right in the future??"
So, yesterday, listening to CBC radio, I heard personal responsibility for wildfires, calm "anxieties" about global warming (but no mention of Canada's role in causing global warming and what Canada would have to do to mitigate or slow it - NO MENTION), a one hour ad for wildfire insurance, a discussion of rent prices that gave equal time and weight to renters and landlords as if one isn't preying on the other, countless breezy mentions of the pandemic as a thing that happened in the past and isn't still happening now.
CBC is meant to pacify people - it's "voice" is one of casual, light, general interest, and distraction.
It's probably better than mainstream media, but only just. It's depressing. Canada is a shallow country run by shallow people.
