According to a newly declassified report, the commercially available information the government purchases "clearly provides intelligence value," but also "raises significant issues related to privacy and civil liberties."

@zackwhittaker you mean they use Palantir?
@zackwhittaker So people finally realized what #NSAbook and #PRISM exist for....
@zackwhittaker @briankrebs Every time a law limits what the US government can do a new outsourcing option appears. At much higher cost.

This should surprise no one. Consider what their job is, to know as much as possible about everything and everyone, everywhere.
@zackwhittaker and they have the AUDACITY of complaining about GDPR 🤣 🤣
@zackwhittaker remember when we had a right to our own privacy? Then Terms of Use got really long and we all just started checking boxes to get where we were going? That may have been a mistake in hindsight. 😂

Had a shitty conversation yesterday explaining to my mom why she was getting ads for funeral urns dispite not even knowing how to search on YouTube tv. Told her, her smart tv is listening and attaching tags to her online profile and selling you what's most on your mind right now and that it knows we had a death in the family.

@zackwhittaker

How is the government buying this "an outrage," but some no-name sketchy company buying it no big deal?

Both are just as bad and if you didn't care about companies selling your data, you shouldn't care about the government buying it.

@zackwhittaker why you think Elon bought Twitter?
Doesn't anyone remember Cambridge analytica?
@zackwhittaker @briankrebs this is the government officially saying “this is legal… But should it be?”
@zackwhittaker But we're banning TikTok
@Tbeauchamp @zackwhittaker just Chinese owned TikTok. They are perfectly fine with American owned TikTok.
@zackwhittaker likely every government and big business on the planet has purchased the same data and know everything there is to know about Americans. Either give up or pass real privacy laws.

@zackwhittaker No... no issues since there is no privacy 🙃

(There should be but also consider they just destroyed the right to privacy in law...) 👀
