If you're unfamiliar with something you can either ask politely, or find the answer yourself. You did neither. If it was a post about something new or controversial, or rare, I could see (after doing a search myself) asking "I can't find anything to back this up, can you point me to one of your sources?"
What you did is demand unpaid labor from a stranger, and impolitely at that.
