what's most interesting about the MeFi discussions of the Reddit blackout is *how many* people had been appending 'site:reddit.com' to google searches in order to get usable results back. I too have been doing this. It is ridiculous and Google should feel bad.
@ceejbot For whatever reason, I essentially never look at reddit, but I do something similar lots of other times. Eg, for core python info, I almost always append `site:docs.python.org` and it increases the quality of the output dramatically.
@ceejbot I'm always surprised to learn that #metafilter is still around. Did they ever financially recover from the Great Google Ad Payment Realignment of...2009?

@davidr Supporters can pay a small monthly fee to them to help. They do well enough to have paid moderation still!

I have been a paying supporter for years while forgetting entirely about the site for those same years. I'm okay with this. It is unique.

@ceejbot For sure--great link aggregation and comment moderation. And AskMeFi was really good as well. Much better than reddit is/was at any point.
@ceejbot It's almost like human curation is essential to knowledge propagation.
