Reminder—if Trump's indictment was meritless every top criminal defense lawyer in America would be scrambling to defend him. It’d be the case of a lifetime.

But instead they're avoiding him like the plague b/c they know he's guilty & refuse to sink with his ship.

US law holds "when accused of a crime an attorney will be provided if you cannot afford one."

Trump may force a change to, "an attorney will be provided if you cannot afford one OR if you are so unethical no one will take your case."

@QasimRashid

Respectfully, the 6th amendment doesn't reserve the right to legal counsel for those who are indigent. It is meant to ensure that government prosecutors do their job.

The bar for criminal conviction (guilty beyond a reasonable doubt) is very high for a reason.

Even if there were pro Bono attorneys beating down his door, the right to counsel is meant to secure effective counsel by a competent counselor.

Let's not make the mistake of demonizing defense attorneys.

@QasimRashid

Criminal defense attorneys, especially public defenders, are ethically bound to provide a zealous defense and their job is to force the state to prove legal guilt if the state wishes to secure a conviction.

I wish for DJT to receive qualified and competent counsel AND for the state to secure meritorious conviction on the basis of a watertight case built from a mountain of irrefutable and compelling evidence.
