I feel like whoever named the color Mauve was put on the spot and panicked
@JonBaker Indeed—#wiktionary says the name was “coined in 1856 by the chemist William Henry Perkin, when he accidentally created the first aniline dye.” This could be an animated short.
@thankfulpond @JonBaker How much you want to bet him mother’s name was Maeve? #MommasBoy
@JonBaker I'm by myself, and I laughed out loud.
@JonBaker I've read the book about William Perkin's discovery. My late mum told me that it used to be pronounced 'more-ve', which mutated to 'mow-ve'. She was a Geordie though, so maybe that was a regional thing.
@JonBaker I feel much the same way about creating cottage cheese.
