I started a new tube of toothpaste last night. I've never actually paid attention to how long a single tube lasts before. My wife and I use different kinds so it's just me using it, and at the end of a tube I can never remember when I had started it.

This time, I'm documenting the start of this tube so I'll be able to look back and verify when it was.

I have finally come to the end of my #toothpaste experiment. My tube is empty and it has taken 278 days.

#mundane

Made it to the end of the tube once again. This time, it took me 243 days. I need to be more judicious with my squeezing. #toothpaste

Just killed another tube. It lasted 248 days this time. I'm starting to think the longevity of that first tube was a fluke. How did it last ~30 days longer than the next two?

#toothpaste

R.I.P. toothpaste tube. This one lasted 231 days. I'm getting less efficient, apparently. Am I squeezing too hard?

@steve I'd be interested in how long it took from the it looks empty state to the completely empty state.

@Michkov It only really started to look empty to me about a week ago. I have had to employ some fairly extreme measures to get to the bitter end :)

Using the edge of a can of soup (of similar) to scrape the paste up the tube while against the counter is perhaps the most effective means of extrication I've tried.

@steve :) I nearly popped off the top one trying to get the last bits of paste out once, but I havn't used heavy machinery yet. Usually sucking out the last bits works fairly well enough.

@steve You're not the only toothpaste watcher. I have an idea that most people could use only half as much at each brushing, with no detrimental effects, making a tube last twice as long, with only half as much plastic going to landfill. A return to tooth powder would be even better because the powder can be contained in cardboard. Toothpaste tablets currently on the market are not so good bc the manufacturer is controlling how much you use.

@anne_twain I don't usually use more than a pea-sized blob.

I don't know if I could brush my teeth with a powder...Although I feel the same way about dishwasher tablets vs. powder detergent.
