One Sentence Review™ of #BeingMaryTylerMoore on Max (formerly HBO… HBO GO… HBO MAX)

Being Mary Tyler Moore is a terrific documentary that made a bold choice to have all the fantastic interviews heard but not seen, in favor of a metric shit ton of MTM footage thru out the years, which was deftly handled by the editor Mariah Rehmet.

@djbtv Ooh, I am so there for this!
@haljor it’s good. I learned a ton and I wasn’t sure there was much for me to learn b/c I’ve been such a fan.
@djbtv I didn't even know this was coming. Having seen both her show and Dick Van Dyke all the way through on DVD (twice!) I have to see this.

@haljor oh you will love it. Comprehensive. I had no idea either that it was a thing. A friend saw it and asked if I had seen it yet. I was like “Wha?????”

Have you read Mary and Lou and Rhoda and Ted? It’s about how MTM Show almost didn’t get on the air and the creation of it. It’s an amazing deep dive into the history of female comedy writers as well as the series itself. HIGHLY recommend.

Pro Tip - read the forward. I usually skip but there’s important info in there. Not sure why it wasn’t part of chapter 1

Also lots of stuff about their first hire of writer Treva Silverman who you hear from thru out the Max doc Being MTM.

@djbtv I...don't read but I might be tempted. I know some of the details I might have come across on Wikipedia or various blogs and such but nothing so deep. I have a lot of respect for earlier women performers (Joan Davis, Gracie Allen) so it would be great context.

@haljor I’m not a huge reader myself. Dyslexic. So slow reader. But I got thru this book fast.

Plus, and I highly recommend, when a friend turned me on to the book years ago… Sundance channel was having a marathon and ran all the MTM eps in order 4 a night over months. I had just started the book and so watching that while reading the book was fascinating.

Treva’s first Ep was ep 4. B/c I had been reading the book I literally gasped when her name came up. #TotalNerdCore 😆
