Large Language Models are a perfect Rorschach test. If your job involves producing paragraph after paragraph of perfect-sounding bollocks with only an accidental connection to reality, a machine being able to do that very efficiently will sound apocalyptic.

If your job involves carefully analysing observable facts, drawing reasoned conclusions from said facts, and acting accordingly, well, you’ve got a job so long as people care about facts.

A large chunk of my work life has involved trying to improve the quantity, quality, reliability and reproducibility of data being produced and delivered into the hands of decision makers, so they can make better choices about everything from marketing strategy to product design and even public service provision.

The rapid improvement in engineering quality and statistical analysis is only worth a damn if management look at the data and understand the implications of it. A vain hope, alas.
