Just an FYI in case you feel like throwing me a few bucks to offset server costs every month or whatever.

Thanks! I will def contribute!
What's the financial situation like? I can shuffle around my donation money, but I'd rather not if this place is currently in the black.
Yeah it's not a huge amount of money we're spending on the server right now. If you want to donate then I suggest you put some towards the Lemmy devs.
Done! However, I would prefer to make small donations in bitcoin (BTC). That way you get it all, and I'm not making a bank rich. Plz update me if you get a BTC address. Thanks!
I'm all for bitcoin, but how are you making a bank rich by transferring money to someone?
The cc company takes a cut of the donation which takes away from the owner who's running the server. I just meant I'd rather not deal with banks if there's an option not to.
Oooh that makes sense. I was thinking more along the lines of an ACH transfer, or paypal or venmo or something like that.
or through Lightning! ;)

New to Lemmy in general, but I saw on other lemmy instances server owners provided monthly updates to their server costs and had transparency of exactly how much money has been donated that month, how much money is set aside in total, and the monthly server costs. I love this and think its great if that was done here

Also, is there any thought on updating the specs of the server when more users join and traffic increases?

A lot of that chat is happening over on the Matrix server. There has been a lot of database talk that's been way over my head haha.

At least 2 hardware upgrades have happened in the last couple days iirc.

When I asked about server costs earlier, he told me

I get like $9/week so yeah I'm good I think it's at $28 a month now with the upgrades

Awesome I’ll have to check out the matrix server if I can. I love seeing and talking about that kind of stuff
