Now I just need to figure out the command 'Place'.

What is it for? How should I use it? How do I teach it to Benson?

@DeliaChristina Try this - Boundary and Place are the same idea - https://absolutedog.s3.amazonaws.com/ebooks/BoundaryGames_V5.pdf 💜

@pixelcats
I'm TOTALLY saving that.
Thank you!!

I realize I've partially taught Benson some boundaries: the kitchen, my bedroom, the bathroom - these are all places he can't enter unless he's invited or I put him there.

He's a little shaky about my bedroom...

Now I can firm that up for him!

@DeliaChristina Boundaries and Middle have saved us from chaos so many times .. well worth putting the work in. Wishing you and Benson all the fun together!
@DeliaChristina it is great to get your dog to sit where you’re pointing, which is very handy. Treats, lots of treats.
@DeliaChristina I wonder if @dancinyogi might have some thoughts on this, since training dogs is one of the things she does.
@DeliaChristina Oh wow! We never taught our dog this, but it seems soooo useful. (I think we just said "go to bed.) I had to look it up and found this: https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/training/teaching-go-to-your-place/
If we ever get a dog again (I think we will, one day), this will be on our command list.
@DeliaChristina Place has been great for Herc, it's one of his best commands but I'll be honest, he mostly learned it during a week long board & train. But if he gets too hyper I can tell him place and he will, and he'll stay until he's calmed down. I wouldn't bank it it holding if a squirrel ran past but he's pretty good. I have him place briefly every day before dinner to reinforce it.
@flopperdog I'm gonna look up some videos to see it in action.
