I'm merely pointing out that Oregonians and Californians know *exactly* how folks on the eastern coast of Canada and U.S. are feeling (and breathing) right now. I say this to make the following point:

Trust us when we say that these massive fires will keep happening unless we get serious about addressing climate change.

It may seem unfathomable that such disruptive fires could become recurring events, but trust us: they can and will.

Demand climate guardianship from your elected leaders. Now.

@DataDrivenMD
too late ⚠️ get the mop πŸ’§
@DataDrivenMD Well they will keep happening until the fuel runs out and we have no forests left.
@DataDrivenMD don’t forget us in Washington!
@DataDrivenMD And Washington State. And British Columbia.
@DataDrivenMD We *are* demanding it from our elected leaders. They are stalling and blocking us, because they believe we aren't willing to pay the price and make the required sacrifices.
@DataDrivenMD Our elected leaders respond only to voters during the spring and summer of an election year and campaign cash the rest of the time.
@DataDrivenMD oregonian here and I agree with you.
@DataDrivenMD
Australia's #BushFires helped to turn around their government, but they're lucky enough to have high voter turnout.

@GreenFire @DataDrivenMD

Voting is compulsory in Australia πŸ‘

@TCMuffin @DataDrivenMD
Voting is compulsory in every democracy for every citizen that values democracy.
@DataDrivenMD And Washington and British Columbia and Alaska.
@DataDrivenMD I often say, we all live down stream, I addwe all live down wind
@DataDrivenMD Absolutely. Our summer in Oregon, trapped inside with no air conditioning and no way to breathe fresh air, while it was dark orange outside, was a literal nightmare.
@DataDrivenMD Idaho also reporting for alien skies and β€œgo bag” solidarity. Basically anyone in or west of the Rockies is familiar with being on fire and/or smothered in smoke every summer in recent times. It’s absurd that we’re just trying to adapt to this. We need action.
@DataDrivenMD Oregonian here. The fires get closer to my home every year, and every year I know more people who were evacuated and some who lost everything they had. The last 4 years in particular have been horrific.
@DataDrivenMD You can include us British Columbians in that.
@DataDrivenMD If you look at the whole planet, they're already a recurring event. Australia had them in 2019. They've occurred in previously unheard of places in Europe and even in the Arctic Circle, all just in the last few years
@DataDrivenMD So do those of us in Washington state. Along with our own wild fires, we get the smoke from BC and from as far away as California.
