Kim’s on a Train Update:

For you Internet Oldheads, we passed through a place called “Altavista, Virginia”.

Pour one out for the search engines we lost!

*shakes fist at Google SEO*

I don’t have any T-Mobile coverage here, but the free Wi-Fi is holding up (slowly)!

I did need to connect to a Verizon hotspot to post this video though.

Kim’s on a Train Update:

Attempted to host a video meeting with the @pcmag software team, but it took almost 10 minutes for the link to open using the free Wi-Fi.

Stuff I can do:

-Connect to a VPN server
-Browse email and websites
-Send and receive messages on Discord and Slack
-Post text on Mastodon
-Stream audio

Stuff I can’t do:
-Stream video
-Upload media files

I didn’t expect video conferencing to work well, so I’m not disappointed at all.

Anyway, here’s Virginia! It’s quite pretty.

Kim’s on a Train Update:

Lunch happened! It was fine. I went for the baked ziti. It’s not pretty, but it got the job done. The butter cake is fire, but a bit rich.

Breakfast was some sort of hole-less bagel sandwich and hot tea.

We should be in NYC by dinner time, so I plan to have a (hopefully) non-microwaved meal soon!

@kimkey I'm legit sorry your visit to our lovely town coincides with this apocalyptic weather

@maxeddy ha! I sure know how to pick my dates! I was like “ahhh, late spring weather in New York, nothing better”

As soon as we crossed the Potomac, the sky darkened, and I started reading everyone’s messages about horrible smog.

Welcome to New York City indeed!!

@kimkey I've legit never seen anything like this.

@maxeddy I joked about Mordor on Slack but that is terrifying. Why did I leave my happy and cheerful little farm plot for this
@kimkey I like how you omitted the Stone IPA from the description. But that food doesn't look half bad! I read that Amtrak improved its food selections for long-haul trains late last year

@jilleduffy hahaha I genuinely forgot about it. QUITE sour! I also neglected to mention the very tiny salad even though it was my favorite thing I’ve consumed today (desperation for fresh veg setting in already).

The food was really okay! I don’t really expect anything close to fine dining on Amtrak. It was edible and hot, which is more than can be said of many airline meals!
