This is Ofrsk, an explorer stranded in the underground world of Norgard. He's good at running. I set world difficulty to hard, character to standard because permanently losing a character is not according to my current state of mind.
#CoreKeeperIt's hard to get the dust off your clothes, and try again, if your character is permanently lost.
Character and world have been created for your entertainment exclusively. I'll keep my older saves largely private. That way I can better document progress and let you be part of the experience.
The initial benefits of choosing an explorer as class are vanishing quickly. There isn't much point in running around before you start mining.
So here is
#CoreKeeper, base-building edition. As a reminder: This is where we started.
First, I decided to start my home to the right of the core this time. Then I carved out a small area just big enough to fit in my workbench, a free space below it, and then a furnace.
After that I went out gathering more resources. I dug far enough to the right to meet a body of water, and built a wooden bridge across it. In the workbench row I added a chest and a copper anvil. That set-up enables me to use resources stored in the chest with both the workbench and the anvil (although the copper anvil isn't that important). In the funrace row I added a cooking pot which allows me to cook food. Food, then, sustains me with healing and several buffs.
Here are the two ruins I discovered, one in the very beginning and the other even after establishing the base I presented earlier.
#CoreKeeperWith that I had enough copper to create a set of copper armour. I ended that latest session on 19 deaths, as the amount of tombstones in the attached screenshot reveals.
I also crafted more than a hundred wooden bridge pieces, which some of you may have spotted in the previous screenshot. This time the current map progress is attached as a screen shot. In going to the upper right area you would notice the screen shaking which gives us a strong hint at where the first boss is.
#CoreKeeper Entry 6: In the following session I discovered I giant mushroom. These thingies increase my health upon first consumption. They also enable me to cook special food, as do some other special ingredients we'll encounter in the future.
Also, my Tweetdeck is borked so this is fediverse-exclusive for now.
The last time I played was around Feburary 14th, hence the letters you'll occasionally see pop up in my inventory. That's why I don't remember the purpose of every screenshot I took. But these here clearly show how I was digging out a space for planting seeds.
After that I continued exploring the underground and found a room with a chest.
After that I built a mushroom farm because that kind of soil is supposed to rarely grow big mushrooms. I've never seen a manually-grown big mushroom so far.
That's it for today.
Today the #CoreKeeper shenanigans continue in entry no. 7.
It's finally time to show you the boss I had alluded to before. If un-aggroed that guy just jumps up and down in place.
Last time we had found a chest, and here is the pair of dolls I found in it. They're not particularly beautiful, being low-rez and all. But they could be sold to a merchant once I get one.
I emptied the chest, then I carried it back to base. Now it's sitting there in my dedicated chest room, in the company of two other chests.
A short time later I found a copper chest. Thankfully I was already in posession of some copper keys. These can be found in wooden chests and drop from mobs. I unlocked the chest, found a couple of coins, some valuables, a bow and a rare ring that increases health if I recall correctly.
#CoreKeeper entry no. 8: Since last time I researched the growth habits of mushrooms in Core Keeper. Giant Mushrooms are only spawned upon world generation. They can't grow in your Fungal Soil bed. So to anyone who started furiously farming mushrooms because of my remarks, I apologise. (Just double-checked this.)
In terms of progress, I went off to search for the Clay biome where I could dig out tin ore instead of just finding it in crates and chests. Naturally, I ended up in the Forgotten Ruins biome first.
I found a copper key, went back and opened a chest I had left in the harvesting room. The most notable loot in there were copper bars and mechanical parts.
It seems the tin bars I gained from scrapping the axe was exactly what I was looking for, as here I am after building a tin workbench in a new room.
After crafting hundreds of wooden bridge pieces (I guess), I chose a different direction to explore. I found more crates next to a large chasm. Across that chasm I built a looong bridge, and eventually entered the Clay biome.
Turns out, there was a racing track close to the bridge I built. That happens, I have no Idea why they exist. But there are actual driveable cars. They're always speckled with crates, too.
Once again, I made my way back to the base, and end today's entry with a screenshot of my current stock of crafting materials, and my current skill points.
#CoreKeeper entry no. 9. Its been... a while. I've been busy being sick, organising a birthday party, and looking into how to manage the behind-the-scenes stuff better.
Last time I had ventured off into the Clay biome, and that's where we pick up today.
In the beginning all went well, and I found some tin ore. I even got to pick my second talent in Mining, for which I chose to get a chance at additional lumps of ore from mining.
But then I found some cavelings. I'm going to talk about them at length at a later point because I want to have my musings a bit of an analytical streak in addition to a colourful retelling of my gaming sessions.
