You can always tell the old-school Mac users from the newbies based on whether or not they quit applications entirely when done with an app or merely close the active window.
@snazzyq ooor just let Quitter handle all of that 😅
@snazzyq My ex-girlfriend’s MacBook was awful to look at, since there were always 12 things running in the dock when she’d only be using Chrome.
@thewarragulman @snazzyq My wife does the same. It drives me bonkers.
@snazzyq you can catch the really old ones by checking to see if they hold down the mouse button while moving through a menu
@marlies Guilty.
@snazzyq @marlies I have the accessibility feature that lets one button click keep a menu open so I can surf up and down it without needing to keep the button pressed. Feels great
@snazzyq when I first let my kids play on my old Macintosh Plus, I had to teach them to to quit apps instead of just closing windows.
@snazzyq I always quit. Does this make me old or young?
@snazzyq i've been a mac user since 2009, but it really depends on the device that i'm using if i close out the applications when I'm done tbh
@snazzyq Yeah I’m always annoyed if I’d been using Excel or something and see it’s still running.
@snazzyq I’m a relatively new mac user but I still like to close an app entirely, it’s just so annoying and unintuitive how the big red button doesn’t actually close an application
@snazzyq I've been using a Mac far shorter than my partner, yet I'm the one quitting my apps, while she's just closing her windows 👀
@snazzyq that dot below the icon on the dock was triggering...
@snazzyq wait, you guys hide windows, and not just leave a cluttered stack of windows going? *cough* nope. I don't do any such thing.
@snazzyq I stopped closing windows and quitting applications years ago once ram became plentiful. If I do need to close one though, cmd-q for sure
@snazzyq been a Mac user since 2002. Never once have I ever quit apps fully. I’d close the windows and let them run in the background.
@snazzyq I’d argue, also, that this is one of the poor design decisions on the OG Mac that was foolishly carried over to OS X.
@snazzyq Curious... which user group does what? I'm a mac user since 2005 and I do both pending on the app.
@snazzyq I only started using Mac regularly in the last 6 years, but it depends on what I’m doing if I command+q or just click close. Bigger programs get the full quit, small stuff gets to generally stay open.
@snazzyq what about the kill command in terminal?
