Introducing Apple Vision Pro: Apple’s first spatial computer

Apple today unveiled Apple Vision Pro, a revolutionary spatial computer that seamlessly blends digital content with the physical world.

@pschiller congrats on shipping! It's super cool
@pschiller i have my criticisms but whoever came up with ‘spatial computer’ deserves a raise
@marlies @pschiller I thought the same. Way to redefine the category without nodding to the metaverse. And the term leans into productivity right away. Great strategy.
@marlies @pschiller I was hoping for iBalls tbh. 🤷‍♀️
@marlies @pschiller The term „spacial computing“ has been used in computer science for decades.
@stefanwagner @pschiller well, yeah, but in a totally different context
@marlies @pschiller It was also used in combination with AR.
@marlies @pschiller but I fully agree that it was a great idea to use it in their presentation and emphasise it.
@stefanwagner @pschiller ah, I wasn’t aware of that, thank you for pointing this out
@pschiller Awesome presentation. The team knocked it out of the park. I can’t wait to try it on for size.
@pschiller Glad the term ‘Spatial Computing’ is being used, it includes a wider range of capability and interaction than just Augmented Reality or VR. And of course it’s great that the “M” word wasn’t used…
@oliverw @pschiller ...io lo chiamerei SUPER CAZZOLA
@pschiller Really disappointed the reveal wasn’t accompanied by ‘The Future’s So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades’ 😔
@pschiller You must be absolutely thrilled. Congrats.
@pschiller Woah, looking goooood! Now hoping it’s affordable, I would love creating games for VR
@pschiller looks super goofy. I hope miniaturization kicks in fast!
@pschiller why is it called “Pro”? Does Apple plan to build a cheaper non-pro model in the near future?
@ppn For Apple "Pro" just means "more expensive".
@martin3783 but Apple does not usually release a new device in a new category with the Pro label right away. It’s weird that there is seemingly no base model.
@ppn True, but in this case you just can't sell this technology for a cheaper price.
@martin3783 Apple’s margin and benefit on every other products they have ever sold suggest otherwise.

@ppn @pschiller it seems like a safe bet there will be a base/SE later. Other Pro products are priced 2X-7X base. $500-$1200 seems reasonable given the capabilities.

Apple values supporting hardware many years. It feels like the Watch launch hardware held the platform back. To me, launching Vision with Pro flips that & the high price signals this is for developers.

@ppn @pschiller

Versace VE2166 Aviator… I bet Vision looks closer to this in a few years (or Doc Browns metal shades from Back to the Future)

@pschiller Phil, where is the Touchbar?
@Brilliantcrank @pschiller and it needs a stand that will prevent it from being laid on its face. Perhaps one that uses Qi charging.
@pschiller you can finally get rid of that F1 setup 😁
@pschiller I got the iPhone immediately. Same with the iPad and Apple Watch. But I don't get this thing at all.
@pschiller congrats Phil! I’m so excited to try it.
@pschiller The tech in it sound awesome, but good gods man the price! That’s a lot of money for a headset that runs iPadOS apps and can mirror your Mac’s display. 😕
@pschiller Nice work. Steve would be proud. But he'd express it by saying, "Gotta get rid of that power brick dongle!"

@pschiller That was absolutely awesome!! Congrats on the launch!

Obviously I have my criticisms (such as no one will keep that thing on their head on their daughters birthday like suggested and I definitely don’t want a virtual persona that looks like real me at all (really, memoji would unironically be better - or a personalizable persona)), but visionOS looks stunning, the AR stuff is awesome, the whole UI and all the different features announced today… just woah! It really is so much better than any expectations I had! Really excited to try it out someday!!

(Also I do hope we can link it to a computer and run VR apps/games on it (maybe with vr controller support since not all would support gestures) (and hopefully somehow not limited to macOS, being usable on Linux too (ha, one can hope!))

@pschiller Did you ever thought about living this moment?
@pschiller I thought the i in iMac used to mean interconnectedness, but now it would be just isolation.
There was only one wearer in the room in the video. When someone else enters the room you have the creepy see through eyes.
Imagine FaceTime call with only VisionPro users. Are we seeing only 3D avatars of ourselves? Creepy as hell.
@pschiller congratulations. Now take my money!!
@pschiller “can’t innovate my ass”
@BenRiceM @pschiller That’s what people kept saying to me then I did a lot of squats and everyone changed their mind.
@pschiller Really great to see that #Apple makes an impact again to a new market. 😍
@pschiller Hi Phil, I thought the presentation was great! Exceptional work to all of the Apple team.
@pschiller sorry Apple. Please show us this Again in 3 years. You zucked it.
@pschiller But we're still waiting for a smarter Siri… According to chat GPT, who uses Siri?
