Is #VisionPro the first ever product by #Apple that’s absolutely not accessible by certain segments of people?

Not just in price but also the basic premise of the product?!

@Macbiff not at all. Many many Apple products have only been for Mercedes drivers, even the first iPhone was $600, which at the time was a ridiculous amount. An iPad Pro can cost well north of $2000, a Mac Pros hit 5 figures.

@mikemuch yeah that’s why I mentioned it wasn’t about price but people with disabilities, or even most people with long or short sightedness would be prevented from using it - unless you pay for the Zeiss add on corrective lenses.

I don’t think you’d see a video about the Vision Pro use in their Accessibility pages.

@Macbiff Though eye control is a big accessibility feature.
@Macbiff I could see a use case in businesses, but not sure how it fits into a family environment at home - feels like it disconnects the wearer
@neilplatten absolutely. I’d be scarred if I see my dad filming me while I play with my sister to be honest. ;)
@Macbiff Apparently lots of APIs for accessibility; https://mstdn.social/@ppatel/110497681807651160

The full #accessibility story for the #VisionOS and the #VisionPro initial device is far more impressive than I'd imagined. Then again I shouldn't be surprised. Even if Apple has a checkered past about maintaining some of the features properly as they should, they do have an ethos of making products fully accessible from the start. The list of accessibility features supported out of the box on these new devices is in the next post, which I gathered from the State of the Union. #WWDC #WWDC23

@Macbiff No it isn’t. The Apple II at its 1977 price was out of reach for most people and it took till 1981-82 before most of the middle class could afford, and even then many still went with cheaper Commodore and Atari computers due to price. Even then, less than a third of the US had a home computer.
@Macbiff Seen some whispers online that there might be a more affordable consumer version later on. The "Pro" tag seems to imply that there might be another version (maybe a Light version?) that is more wallet friendly. Again this is just speculation.
