Does anyone understand COMPUTER i do not understand COMPUTER

I am trying to upgrade my "firmware" before installing a new M.2 hard drive. I am going down the line on the downloads page for my motherboard ( https://www.asus.com/supportonly/prime%20h270m-plus/helpdesk_download/ ) installing whatever it says to install. I upgraded the mobo BIOS firmware, I think I upgraded SATA but I think I already had the most up to date version, and then I get to this mysterious thing.

"DRV_MEI_Intel_Con_KBL_SZ_W10_64_VER11701057_20190401R".

What is this?

PRIME H270M-PLUS - Support

Whenever anyone talks about Intel Management Engine, they talk about bizarre cloud licensing schemes and security flaws. But a friend said it can influence SATA. And if it's in the microchip it seems worth upgrading to the newest version. But also Windows can upgrade Intel chipset drivers, I thought? So do I need this?

I installed it, and it installed a series of totally baffling files in C:\Program Files. It didn't offer to upgrade a firmware. Should I run any of this? Should I uninstall it?

Really hoping this isn't like the easter egg in Nier Automata where the robot uninstalls her CPU and dies instantly
