Just done my blood spots for my PKU! The first circle is great, but I eventually loose steam by the end 😂

If you are wondering “what is PKU?”, my good friend @poconnor has wrote a book on just that!!

It's called Living with PKU, and you can get it here: https://pigpen.page/books/ (£15 for paper back, £5 for eBook)

Between June and July, half of the profits go to the NSPKU charity (https://nspku.org) - a charity that does so much for PKU folks!

Please check out the book (and boost these posts)! Thank you!

Pig Pen
@soheb Does this mean that your blood is good at clotting? "Time for another pin prick", "oh sh*t alors".

@richardazia It could be, but is most likely me getting a bit bored of sitting around squeezing my finger, and just hurrying the process a little so I can finish up.

But I've definitely had that problem. Also? Cold weather is horrible for blood spots - finger heals super quickly 😔

@soheb For a few years I used to go cold water diving with wet gloves and my hands went numb with the cold. Getting blood out for a test after those dives would have been a challenge. "Can you do some jumping jacks and come back?" I don't mind that fingers heal fast. What bothers me is the pain of those pricks.

@richardazia My secret hack to warm up my hands is to just sit on my hands for about 15 mins before the blood test, then give said hands a good shake before blood tests.

And yeah, I definitely understand. The thing is I have to do these blood tests every month, so:

1. Because I get them done so regularly, I'm used to it
2. In fact, I freak out a little if it *doesn't* hurt, as that's a sign that the needle didn't penetrate, and I'll get very little blood, which means I need to repeat.
