"The state’s Democratic majority didn’t just succeed because they had a trifecta. It’s also because they set aside the urge to engage in bipartisanship with the bad actors of the Minnesota GOP, who thought Democrats’ one-vote majority was fragile and would require them to obtain bipartisan support to pass key legislation." https://www.publicnotice.co/p/minnesota-democrats-accomplishments-2023
Minnesota Democrats' historic legislative session

Voters gave Dems a trifecta, and they wasted no time using it to pass a breathtaking array of progressive legislation.

@atrupar
"Democrats [in Minnesota] also passed a bill that makes college free for families that earn under $80,000 per year.. no tuition costs or associated fees at any of the state’s public colleges, universities, and tribal colleges"

In terms of public policy, this is a million times better than Biden's one-time student debt cancellation, which offers zero help to future generations, doesn't increase access, and sends a large portion of aid to upper-middle-class families

@atrupar
I guess they didn't have Manchin-like members to gum up the works.

@YourNeighbor57 @atrupar Yep! Also no filibuster.

More importantly, no judicial-confirmation power in the state senate. That means they don’t risk as much if they push a moderate/conservative Dem too far.

@atrupar my wife pointed out how much we’ll save with free school lunch. It’s like a whole other rebate!

There has been such a flurry of good day-to-day improvements it’s like the inverse of the GOP’s decades-long effort to all cripple government, to instead show we can make it effective.

@atrupar Credit where super-due: https://twitter.com/karidziedzic?s=21&t=HEtpw9d0unt2voXOjdrpxA kept unanimity among an often fractious bunch. Oh, and went through cancer treatment DURING the session. A veritable #MinnesotaMiracle
