This is a very solid historical piece by Meredith Whittaker on Charles Babbage, his writing about what we'd now call Taylorism and Scientific Management, and how it ties into his views on the Analytical Engine he designed. She further goes into the origins of Taylorism in plantation slave management, and some of the intellectual connections to that earlier work.
