Words Matter Act Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI2) would mandate the replacement of offensive terminology in federal law with “intellectual disabilities”. https://govtrackinsider.com/words-matter-act-would-mandate-the-replacement-of-offensive-terminology-in-federal-law-with-8419fc43c1fc
@GovTrack I wonder if the defintion is broad enough to include those with the "Stupid" and "Incompetent" disabilities... (GRIN)
@Pjcoyle “stupid” is also ableist language; your joke is not funny.
@GovTrack I think this bill also eliminates other outdated language, like replacing the "president's wife" with the "president's spouse.". I'm glad #Pocan is working on bipartisan housekeeping efforts, not just hot button things that get a lot of attention.
@cgervasi No that was a separate bill that became law in 12/22: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/117/hr3285 But you’re correct that Rep. Pocan has a standing interest in updating federal terminology.
21st Century President Act (2022 - H.R. 3285)

To amend gendered terms in Federal law relating to the President and the President's spouse.
