between the translation of Foucault's "Surveiller et Punir" as "Discipline and Punish" and the mistranslation of "force du travail" in Irigaray's ouvre as "workforce" (instead of labour-power as refclected in English Marxist jargon) I do not think you should trust any late 20th century French #philosophy translations lol

@alyvore Especially when it's so easily checked it has it's own Wikipedia article... https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Force_de_travail
Force de travail — Wikipédia

@apodoxus genuinely wonder if this and similar errors is responsible for much of irigaray's english-language reception lol. Tho irigaray isn't the only one.
@alyvore I wouldn't know because I didn't know who that was 10 minutes ago but being both continental (where the anglosphere is predominantly analytic) and a feminist essentialist would not have me bet on her popularity...
@apodoxus she's certainly not an essentialist. Continental, sure, but plenty of continentals are very popular.
@alyvore Sure, I guess I should have said accused of being since I don't know :) Are there any that are popular in the anglosphere that weren't superstars in their own country (like Foucault, Camus, etc.)? Is she?
