Wanted to A/B test a couple speakers I was fixing so a DPDT switch, some solder, and scrap wire (along with a killer class D amp there), and problem solved.

The best part was when my daughter did an eyes-closed listen comparison for me, opened her eyes and asked WHAT IS THAT.

"An MP3 player"

"A what?"

@ethanschoonover Good grief … I've lived through the obsolescence of four different music distribution media. Five, if you count eight-track.
@ethanschoonover like a Walkman without tape.... oh wait.
@ethanschoonover Ha I recently came across this relic, my first mp3 player in high school, and I think it maybe held 2 or 3 CDs worth of songs and ran on a AAA battery. I remember stowing spare batteries in my backpack for when it would die. Despite its flaws, when I held it, nostalgia was real.
@brandonleedy I love this kind of MP3 player. Simple display, does the job. Love the big single button on front.
@ethanschoonover I remember thinking that this was this height of amazing tech-futurism. I had keys to a car I could drive and THREE CDs of music were on that keychain. It felt like the future I had read about in Neuromancer. Ironically, next to this item in the box in our basement: a stack of labeled Zip Disks of my art portfolio from then. Zip Disks! The future!! ☺️
@ethanschoonover I gotta say I miss those small MP3 players that could hold a handful of CDs. Every week I sat down and put new music on it or created playlists. Since I use Spotify I created exactly one playlist and most of the time I have Option paralysis. I take more time choosing my music than actually listening to it.
