THE VOTE is 121-23 to impeach Ken Paxton

Dude has been under indictment for over 8 years for securities fraud

His own aides wanted him brought up on corruption/bribery charges

He wouldn't show his messages to the special house committee regarding J6

His cruelty towards trans kids and adults in unmatched

Hell, he even stole expensive pens

What did he do to get TX republicans to actually take action?

@flexghost

He accused the speaker of the house of being drunk.

@swordplay was that really the straw? So petty

@flexghost

There's likely also stuff behind the scenes. The Trump/Establishment split is playing out in this, I suspect.

However, I never rule out the fragility of people who base their identity on their social status. (IE: neolibs of all stripes, but the overtly racist ones in particular.)

@flexghost @swordplay he also called him a liberal. The Speaker is sorta an anti-Trump guy
@swordplay @flexghost I think by the time he started calling out Phelan, Paxton knew that he'd been under investigation for months by a Republican-led committee in the House. He was grasping at straws, even if Phelan WAS schnockered.

@flexghost

This feels like it should be a, "wrong answers only" meme from 2021. Officially, "The impeachment accuses Paxton of attempting to interfere in foreclosure lawsuits and issuing legal opinions to benefit developer Nate Paul". Except, that sorta seems like business as usual in states like Texas and Florida?

And then there's this:

"Paxton threatened House members with political retribution, lawmaker says at impeachment"

Gotta wonder if he pushed it them too far, thus sealing his own fate.

@flexghost It is most likely he stole money from a republican. If it affected anyone else besides them... crickets.
@AppalachianCrochet I’m thinking it’s worse even
@flexghost He wanted them to cover up for his general crime'ing ... in other words he was trying to crime against rich/their own people
@flexghost It must be something that, if it ever came out, make all TX Republicans look very bad in comparison... either he ACTUALLY donated to a charity or helped some granny cross the road?
@Flies4no1 their orange God is the worst of the worst support him with their lives

@flexghost

I look forward to that smirk being wiped off its face.

@flexghost -
Just imagining how anyone can be TOO much of a criminal liability for today's GOP!!?!

Did Mr. Paxton literally forget about burying the dead bodies in the boot of his car or something!? 🚔 WTF did he do?

Being a Texas Republican is as safe as it gets for @GOP in gerrymandered territory.

@WiseWords @GOP seriously. The GOP God is a twice impeached convicted sexual assaulter who’s under indictment and about to be tried for a whole bunch more. What did Ken Paxton do?
@flexghost Not evil enough?
@scenario I mean. Yes. He is.
@flexghost I suspect Abbott found someone even eviler.

@flexghost when the people defending you is Trump and Ted Cruz

When there are 20 impeachment counts brought by TEXAS REPUBLICANS of all people

When the vote is 121 - 23

You might need some cheese. 🧀

@flexghost he might have proposed imposing a wealth tax or treating blacks equally. Not sure what else would make his fellow republicans turn against him

@weyoun6 @flexghost

All these charges are about misuse of office, personal corruption and benefiting a donor. It's all true, undoubtedly, but it's still likely to be a figleaf.

A simple theory: Paxton will interfere in the upcoming elections in favor of Trump and the establishment doesn't want that - they want interference in favor of their candidate, whomever that turns out to be. (He's reliable against Biden, but that's irrelevant.)

@weyoun6 @flexghost

It's important to keep in mind that these people do not use moral scruples as a basis for action. There is no 'beyond this line' with them.

They seek power and glory. They shape their utterances in 'moral' and 'ethical' and 'principled' formats -- like an AI might -- but only to placate the rubes.

Even their personal hatreds revolve around this lack of morality. They always relate to social status and personal glorification. Watch any reality show for the underlying psychology. The very worst of us.

@flexghost He needs to resign in disgrace.

@flexghost

Angela, the scorned wife, will vote to CONVICT!

@flexghost I guess even the republicans have their limits when it comes to corruption! 😹
@flexghost Maybe he could even beat Trump in the primaries ...
@flexghost the simplest answer is they don’t need him anymore.
@flexghost never have I seen a more punchable face.
@flexghost Texas is a corrupt gop shithole. Any wonder why Musk wants to go there?
@flexghost it must have benn the pens
@flexghost we are the joke when it comes to ethics and law. USA!
@flexghost
If anyone is interested in the why question:
Paxton settled a misconduct lawsuit against his office for $3 million, and the state legislature is angry about having to pay it.
https://www.texastribune.org/2023/03/13/legislature-ken-paxton-whistleblower-settlement/
Legislature has little appetite to fund Ken Paxton’s settlement with whistleblowers

A lack of lawmaker support jeopardizes the attorney general’s $3.3 million settlement, which would resolve a lawsuit alleging Paxton fired high-ranking deputies who accused him of misconduct.

The Texas Tribune
@flexghost He probably never greased someone's palm. 🤔 Screw over your homeboys and they turn on you.🙄
