How are you discovering new music these days? What are your favorites of 2023 so far?
@bernie (in no particular order) old favorites & their adjacent acts announced on social, people's posts across platforms, music news, label emails, bandcamp features or explorations, music writing/features. All the old tricks of the pre-internet days of casting a wide net. It doesn't always feel productive—as always what's promoted isn't always the most interesting or to taste—but that's the nature of the pursuit

@paulkruczynski yeah… it can be a slog to be your own filter. I miss rolling into the record store and having friends behind the counter tell me the best of the best.

Any 2023 faves so far?

@bernie I forgot to mention recommendation from friends, too. I was thinking of ways beyond that. Whoops. For 2023: depends what you want, of course, and not all is new in 2023. Lifeguard's "Crowd Can Talk" is good indie pop/rock. I don't know how much 90s bias I have, of course, but they bring enough energy that it doesn't feel like a lazy aping of form.

House Of All, the band of all ex-Fall members, is also surprisingly effective. Yes, it's like The Fall, part-eulogy/maybe-cash-in, but good.
