If Mark Zuckerberg launched a new site called BookFace, and pinky-swore not to do any of the creepy stuff that Facebook does, would you trust him?

Of course not. It's inexplicable that Jack Dorsey's BlueSky is getting a pass for doing exactly that.

The guy is a fascist who enthusiastically gave Trump his largest platform. Why on earth is anybody trusting him a second time?

@schmod a lot of marginalized people moved from mastodon to bluesky not because they are stupid, but because they just wanted a place where they could simply exist online without receiving death threats every time they post. Everyone knows this invite-only period with strong moderation is coming to an end.

@raj To be very clear, I'm not arguing that things are perfect here, but I agree that Bluesky's relative period of calm is completely unsustainable, given Dorsey's seeming intentions to not moderate the platform.

On the flipside, I get the impression that the folks influencing fedi genuinely want to make things better.

The sad part is that "Recruit celebrities and ride that wave indefinitely" might actually work for Jack.

@schmod

I'm done with *any* platform that can be purchased by a billionaire. If I'm going to social, it's going to be on Mastodon.

@schmod a fascist? You’re hysterical.
@schmod Bluesky is not Twitter 2.0 and Dorsey's opinion had fuck-all to do with the sale to Musk.
@schmod maybe it's because Jack looks like a weirdo hippie and not a weird robot.

@schmod Of course people would trust the Zuck, just look at how popular #Instagram still is. People love acting like its not owned by the same company that owns facebook.

People keep thinking that "this time the billionaires will not fuck us over".

@schmod after many failed attempts to understand such behavior... at some point we have to accept that stupidity or mental distress is an acceptable hypothesis...
@schmod Because “on-boarding is easier” 🙄
