I'm up early to read a PhD thesis before the family awakes. It's such a privilege to be able to assess these. I always learn something, and the passion and pride our colleagues pour into their work is always impressive.
If you're a PhD student who is struggling, just a little message to #KeepGoing. One day someone like me will really enjoy reading your thesis.💪

@Ruth_Mottram what is your usual way to access them? I come across theses sometimes for example if they cite me, but can't always get the full text
@DrVeronikaCH in this case I'm assessing it! So the university sent. I like the movement away from a traditional big book towards published or submitted papers. I think in general it means new research does get in front of the community and of course with publish or periish culture it's important students graduate with publications already under their belts.
I like the theses though, the background and then time and space to develop an argument is much more compelling!
@Ruth_Mottram yes, I like the paper model too, but the background and discussion chapters are always a nice addition 😊
@Ruth_Mottram Thanks! im in my final year and the mountain of work I still need to do is daunting 😬👀
@Ruth_Mottram Thank you for this unexpected, and welcome perspective.
@Ruth_Mottram Giving encouragement to students, good.
