Many Colorado districts bought Chromebooks to get kids through COVID. Now, thousands of computers are nearing their end.

Chromebooks reach their “death date” when they are no longer capable of receiving operating system updates. Replacing them straps district budgets and harms the environment.

@coloradosun You do know that Chromebooks work just fine even after they stop receiving updates, yes? I'm guessing not, based on this article.

@coloradosun My kids go to school in a district in my state that uses iPads instead of Chromebooks. They last for about six years and there are companies that will buy the old ones. Apple just replaces a broken IPad for free.

I get the not receiving updates issue. Educational companies will update their software and all of a sudden, their stuff won't work without a system upgrade. If you can't upgrade, the app stops working.
