The #gop / #republicans have pulled the debt ceiling stunt since the 1980s
Each time American working people have suffered.
It has nothing to do with conservatism- the GOP are the worst spenders(tax cuts for the richest, pork barrel projects for donors in home states, government contracts and Covid monies stolen by members of Congress, their families, and GOP-Oversight Committees looked the other way.
It is a dangerous power game without consequences.
