@arstechnica hey @Nitro230, we'll be getting adapters soon!
@arstechnica Proprietary connectors should be illegal.
@alex_galt @arstechnica Agreed, good thing Tesla opened up the port and are trying to make it a standard. https://www.tesla.com/blog/opening-north-american-charging-standard

@grantmc @arstechnica I appreciate that, sure.
@alex_galt The current split between Tesla’s connector and CCS definitely seems untenable in the long term and something’s going to have to give. 😬
@grantmc I drive a Bolt in Eastern Wisconsin. The lack of infrastructure here requires a lot of gamesmanship to get around. Even Milwaukee has hardly any chargers. There are places that have only installed Tesla chargers, which leads to incredible inefficiencies. The only reason I’m able to make this work is I installed a Level 2 charger in my garage. So when I spot the Tesla chargers… grr. Even before Musk started manifesting his personality more widely, these felt indicative of something.

@alex_galt I'm also in Wisconsin! (Madison)

The Supercharger infrastructure + Model Y range has been sufficient for me, but it's clearly not tenable for every manufacturer to go the Tesla route and build tens of thousands of proprietary chargers. Fortunately, Tesla's chargers are pretty well placed and super reliable, so if they open up to everyone then that will benefit everyone. Who knows if that'll actually happen, though.

@grantmc when it’s warm, I can get sufficient range to get to most places I care to go. But the Bolt’s range contracts a lot in winter, which makes drives out of the city a bit harrowing. The Green Bay to Madison route works really well, I’ve done that several times. You guys have some of the better infrastructure. But Milwaukee is a weird blind spot. I read that Walmart’s planning to deploy fast chargers in their parking lots. That would be a game changer, as much as I dislike Walmart.
@grantmc But I think every type of plug should be standardized, not just car chargers. It leads to significant waste & inefficiency, so it’s a sustainability issue.
