Democrats unanimously back debt ceiling discharge petition

Every House Democrat has endorsed the discharge petition to force a vote on legislation to hike the debt ceiling and prevent a default, party leaders announced Wednesday. The signatures of the two final holdouts — Reps. Jared Golden (D-Maine) and Ed Case (D-Hawaii) — puts the total number at 213, meaning Democratic leaders still need to find…

@GottaLaff Are there ANY Rs representing Dem-leaning districts who can possibly locate their spines and vote to do the right thing so our economy doesn’t go off a cliff?

@GottaLaff

So... Dems would need 5 repubs who will be instantly censured and basically kicked out of the party.... I just don't see it happening.

@tdwllms1 Nor do I. But you never know. Maybe they're in districts that are purple enough.
@GottaLaff
Who would be the first Republican to break ranks? There’s not a lot of normal sane Republicans left in office.
@ErikOfErik Beats me!
@GottaLaff
Why I don’t think it will succeed 😢
@GottaLaff this is the way.
@FogBelter There aren't too many other ways. 14A won't be a thing.
@GottaLaff the #14thamendment not being a thing is absurd narrative being pushed. Big picture, how many other amendments can be discarded because they’re inconvenient? It would be great if we could throw the #2ndamendment wood chipper and confiscate all the guns, but that’s not going to happen. I worry #democrats actually want to be forced into making the drastic cuts the freedom caucus demands. That would lose me permanently.

@FogBelter It's not a narrative, it's what Biden said. If he hadn't, I'd be more optimistic.

And I don't think they want cuts, but I do think we already know that because Fascists run the House, they'll likely have to make some. Hopefully they'll be as inconsequential as possible.

If it were me, I wouldn't budge, but what do I know.

@GottaLaff what could be done is #potus invokes #14thamendment and then uses a #doddfrank defense of the economy as justification to allow the #federalreserve to continue funding the government until the budget impasse has been addressed. It was #congress that authorized #doddfrank to allow the #federalreserve to inject money directly into the economy without congressional oversight, and it has since 2010. This action would only fund obligations Congress lawfully incurred.
@FogBelter I'm not arguing, I'm only saying I doubt he'll make the move based on what he's been saying.
@GottaLaff understood. I’m just sharing a strategy I believe he could’ve used.
@FogBelter I see. Yeah, I wish they'd listen to you
@GottaLaff not sure there are five sane Republicans in the country much less the House.
@GottaLaff Let’s do look for the needle in the haystack for the “debt ceiling” that should have been abolished.
@artesianspring I don’t think they’ll get too far
@GottaLaff those needles are hard to find! 😁
@GottaLaff and there's plenty that know that is the right thing to do, and none that have the guts to do it.
@knitvspurl They haven’t cared about “the right thing to do” in decades
