Final Cut Pro for iPad packs an amazingly deep feature set into an iPad app in a way that is intuitive to use even for someone who isn’t a video pro.

However, the inability to move Mac projects to the iPad is a bummer for anyone who isn't new to FCP or who isn't a mobile first video editor.

I can’t see it mentioned in your review but I saw in the Verge coverage that you can’t edit footage stored on a SSD!?!

So much for that Thunderbolt interface on the Pro.. 🤷‍♂️

What a baffling oversight.

Attached: 1 image Turns out you CAN go from Final Cut Pro on Mac to Final Cut Pro on iPad! Even Secondary Storylines come across, Multicam Clips and custom Motion Templates. You can't modify colour board effects, but they are applied. This kinda changes... a lot. #fcpx

@johnvoorhees Some Titles don’t translate perfectly, depending on how they’re built. Drop Zones don’t work. Fonts can be an issue.

@latenite I’m even more convinced than ever by this that they just ran out of time and decided to ship FCP for iPad alongside Logic. Hopefully a lot of these details can get cleaned up in updates soon.

@johnvoorhees My thoughts are they wanted to get it out before WWDC. It’s possible they’ll announce 3rd party in-app purchases so you can buy/sell 3rd party motion templated and soundtracks. Maybe that’s what’s holding back third party effects currently. Maybe even introduce FxPlug API and Workflow Extensions API for iPad. Maybe motionVFX’s m03 will be iPad native? Exciting times ahead!
