Never take seriously those who ridicule low income people for having a smartphone or laptop.

“If they’re so poor how did they buy an iPhone???”

Because they’re trying to escape poverty, not the 1700s, genius. If you think basic tech access is luxury, try and survive a month without it.😐

I get what you are saying but it is also a generalization. When it comes to the homeless they are not necessarily trying to escape poverty. A few years ago, after my apartment building was taken over by a wealthy out of towner, it was run it into the ground. They took out the key locks for the outside doors and installed code locks. Soon the homeless people took over the building. Their phones were used for selling drugs or texting each other the code to get into the building...

@Bringiton @QasimRashid I’m surprised you see people squatting and interpret it as they don’t want to escape poverty. Having been homeless, I deeply valued a safe place to sleep, so I could actually sound competent during job interviews. Interviews which I could only find, apply for, and perform on my phone.

You haven' seen what I have seen. Homeless people taking craps in the hallway. Homeless people shooting heroin in the hallway. Homeless people cooking meth in an apartment. You are only one example and that is why we need to stop with these generalizations. I get what a phone can mean. Libraries have computers where you can do job searches. I have been homeless before as well and slept in a van for a few months before I found a place. Cooking meth does not get one out of poverty.

@josephholsten BTW, where I lived was only blocks from the shelter, a place that many homeless would not go to because they wanted to use drugs instead.

The homeless camps in my city also are trash dumps and environmental disasters. I don't have the answers to it all but allowing the homeless to just camp wherever and do whatever is not a recipe for success.

It really depends on how someone chooses to use that phone. Individual responsibility...
