@nilikm If you're a cis person who doesn't give a shit about the lives and well-being of trans people (and let's face it, most cis people don't), and need a purely selfish reason to even lift a finger in our defense, consider this:
It never ends with just us. We're the canary in the coal mine, the test group that genocidal bigots give their hatred a preliminary run on to see if they can get away with it. Once they normalize killing us off, they immediately widen their scope to more groups, which I guarantee will include you and/or people you love.
So fight for us together, or become isolated and alone once we're gone.
It *starts* with school boards (and churches). Be careful, Canada, or you'll end up like us down here in the USA.
@nilikm And this trans girl opted to not attend her own graduation, according to an article in today's Jackson, MS Clarion Ledger. Very sad.
We live in a society where people in power and authority can now bully people with impunity.
She opted not to do so because a Trump appointed judge said she had to attend the ceremony dressed as a boy, despite having lived as herself - a girl - for many years. Including showing up for school each day.
Eric Jensen, a parent in North Carolina, had grievances to air about library books “trying to convert kids to gay,” and about mask and vaccine mandates. So he joined an activist group and headed to a school board meeting.
One point I don't think gets emphasized enough is how much having governments pass laws targeting trans people like this inflames the transphobic bigots into a state of feeling like they should harass trans people. The bigots will try to add to the pressure.
