TIL that the Vikings set up a base in North Umbria from which they launched the rest of their colonization of England. The Vikings bastardized the Saxon name of the town, calling it “Yorvic” (sp?), and that town became known as York, so isn’t the name New York fitting? #HistoryOfEnglishPodcast
