Check out my sweet new Palm m500! After seeing @kelbot tooting about theirs I decided to pick one up. I love the screen, the one bit aesthetic and it's small form factor. My problem is that all the apps that sync with my Linux desktop are gone. I checked WayBack and was able to find some source code but I don't think it's complete. I even tried running the windows app under Wine but it hates USB. Any one know how to get a palm os device to sync with Linux? #question #RetroPortables #palm #linux
@ipxfong One of us! Try jpilot or pilot-link. I'm using pilot-link to sync personally which is the cli utility. jpilot is the gui desktop sync program that's more like the original palm desktop but for linux.
@kelbot Thank you! I grabbed J-Pilot and got going pretty easily. This is great!

@ipxfong
I have a mirror of the Pilot-Link suite which is mostly what I (and I think @kelbot ) use: https://git.sr.ht/~nytpu/pilot-link

If you'd prefer a comprehensive GUI, JPilot is about the only still-maintained option: http://www.jpilot.org/

@kelbot

~nytpu/pilot-link - CLI for interfacing with Palm OS devices (fork) - sourcehut git

@nytpu @kelbot Thank you! I'll grab a copy. Can you use it for scripting? seems like that would be a good way to automate some of the Palm stuff.
@ipxfong @nytpu You can automate some stuff but I haven't found a way to do multiple separate sync operations in one go. Like you can use pilot-xfer to sync multiple files but you have to let that finish then press the cradle button again to run a different tool like pilot-address, pilot-todos etc.

@ipxfong This should help - https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Palm

I took a fair bit of faffing to get things working while doing something similar. It took a lot of messing around with things not building from the AUR for me.

@stug You're a life saver! thanks!
@ipxfong Just remembered having similar issues previously. The hard work is getting the instructions to work!
@stug For sure! Especially since some of the software they mention just doesn't exist anymore. (KPilot, I'm looking at you!)
@ipxfong Sigh.... yes. I forgot about that one. It is included but weirdly from memory.
