It's intriguing how overconfident house cats are against animals that are much larger than them
@stux That kitty has no fear!

@stux The big cat is shocked by the audacity of the little house cat.

But takes the human doing something to back down. That is a big cougar!

@stux “That’s *my* human! Get your own!”

@stux In a documentary on cats I saw, speaking about cars, roads and cats, someone said that male cats seem to be pretty stupid given how they behave around cars (and sometimes get into trouble).

My immediate thought was, no, that's just them (trying) to be the boss and enforce their territory, just like in this video.

@maegul @stux so it's hubris not stupidity, makes sense
@stux the big cats just know they can't compete with these little guys we've worshiped for thousands of years

@stux

When I was a kid, I saw a Doberman in a fight with a house cat. The cat won.

@bitcodavid @stux Our Maine Coon used to smack the 💩 out of our Doberman.

@ymasumac @stux

Oh, I hear that. Maine Coons are some nasty animals.

@stux I don't know what you're talking about. That house cat is nine feet tall. Just ask them. (Also, chihuahuas. Nine feet tall.)
@stux
He looks like he is defending his home and people. Our rescue takes defending my partner to ridiculous lengths. Fortunately, he treats me as a large but not so clever assistant for his job of "Guard Partner Against Evil And Especially From Dogs."
I can usually grab him while he's busy threatening some massive but bemused animal. Or delivery person. Or (once) a snake. Partner has to hang back/retreat or he'll just shrug and do whatever it takes to protect her..
@stux BIG DANGER KITTY!!  i want to pet it
@stux I’m really impressed with that house cat.

@stux

It would be like if you encountered a leprechaun in real life and he took out a switchblade and started cursing at you.

More seriously, predators don't like to fight animals that can fight back. The risk of injury to a predator's eyes or face especially could mean they'd be unable to hunt, so they tend to avoid these kinds of confrontations.

@stux Suggest Mountain Lion (?) has experience with small fierce animals (badgers, etc.) so house cat may look menacing, but not one to better the Mountain Lion. One lucky house cat.
@stux TWW: The strength of one thing is only in relation to another. The size or speed you observe is based on your perspective and that is the only thing you can change. What seems insurmountable will become your asset as you view it from aside, above or below. When you allow your perception to change you can be as anything.
*Great short movie. Sometimes we are faced with an overwhelming challenge and need to be able to control the narrative by adapting the view we perceive. OWOP
@stux
I would recommend muting this cat video, if you are in a house with a cat present! Really…
🙀 😸
@stux Only if they’re safely behind a barrier. 😺
@stux my previous cat (all 3.5 kg of her) would have totally done this 😅
@stux I'm just glad this didn't end in catnibalism
@stux Lucky there was a glass door there, or that fat house cat would've been dinner.
@stux the housecat assumes it's fighting for its life. Not overconfident, more likely desperate.
@stux Cats are gods. Also: cats are assholes. Corollary: I bow down to cats.
@stux Have you ever been attacked by a Siamese? They don't mess around!
@stux I think the cats believe that since they can't get through the glass door, neither can anything else. Which does not stop mine from throwing herself at the patio door trying to reach the outdoor ferals.
@stux Meanwhile, "trying to pet a mountain lion" is near the top of the list of ways I am likely to die.

@stux

Confidence goes a long way. Problem is, the big kitty is pretty confident too.

@stux

Nothing to lose 😉

Overmatched therefore bluff.

@stux Not in the same league, but our family used to have a small but definitely dominant (neutered) male cat. He used to play with our pet rabbit, both chasing one another, when we let it hop around the garden. When next door’s dog got into our garden while the rabbit was out, her saw the dog off very quickly!

@stux Wow her growls just scared 2 of my cats. I'm currently calming and reassuring them

Good kitty
