I've enjoyed every year I've been on the judging committee for the Indie Author of the Year award, and this year's winner, Pascuala Herrera, stood out for having a particularly compelling story.

What struck me most is that she wasn't chasing bestseller dreams, she just wanted to celebrate her mother's life — and in doing so, touched many other lives. That's the highest aspiration for any writer.
