Journalists who would never, ever consider working for Fox "News" continue to give their work -- free -- to Twitter.

They surely know that they're supporting a business controlled -- and manipulated in ugly ways -- by someone at least as malign as Rupert Murdoch. They're giving aid and comfort to someone who hates journalism and amplifies anti-democracy memes.

They could, instead, use the fediverse and control their own destinies.

How can they be helped to grasp this?

@dangillmor @Ursalzona so many conspiracy theorists here, when the truth is more simple and depressing: inertia. Twitter got A LOT of momentum to keep going over a decade, and this momentum will take an equal lot of time to dissipate, no matter how much Elon screws up. Many companies and even regular people invested their time there, and like it or not, they're still seen as a main place fir discussion on the web. For twitter to die, people must actively work to stop that, both inside AND out.
@dangillmor @Ursalzona @tigerjerusalem journalists go to twitter because that's the place they are heard. Elon and Co works surely took a lot of steam out of it, but not enough for it to end, and, like it or not, that's the place you go when you want to talk. For other places to replace twitter, they must give the same reach for those interested. Without that, they won't get out, no matter how many nazi profiles are there, because their livelihood depends on being seen and heard.
@dangillmor @Ursalzona @tigerjerusalem it's hard to be an idealist when you're struggling to put bread on the table, unless you're set for life. Many give up in the process and just try to survive.
