how come i had never heard the word praxis before and now it's literally in every paper that i read?
@jbigham reminds me of the early 2000s when bespoke became the word of the web dev/design industry
@jbigham Happened to me in the mid-1980s when I socialized with grad students in the US. Struck me as a term academicians used to define insiders. Not a word I need to use myself so I don't.

@jbigham What did they teach you at that Ivy League school???

Also, now I realize that I’ve made a bunch of Simone Norman-inspired jokes over the years that you didn’t get :-(

@ben I forgot it all, first paper I wrote with my advisor, he was like stop writing like a kid from Princeton.
@jbigham another advantage of a good public education 🤪
@jbigham did you volunteer for the praxis subcommittee at CHI?
@pg yeah, and I was really disappointed when I found out what it was
@jbigham @pg darn social scientists imposing their woke agenda on us CS-jargon-loving researchers… next thing you know, we’ll have a committee for the advancement of hermeneutics.
@abegel @jbigham whoa who's anonymous elephant? i think they might be impersonating a famous CMU prof
@pg @jbigham fine, shame me into setting my profile pic.
@abegel @jbigham still not verified tho!!
@pg @jbigham so right, without a blue tick, I could be… Elon musk!
@abegel @jbigham oh wow your profile could be some gif with a mission impossible mask rip-off where it's actually elon
@abegel @jbigham or to go maximally-90s, nic cage
@jbigham Because it's academic version of business speak.
