V 'hello I am in my 40s' toot, but a few months back I started sitting on the floor a lot more and getting up without using my hands and I'm really noticing better flexibility and strength, would recommend

I'm strong in a very specific limited way, but also I'm about 90kg and my body is mostly a dopey hulk which crashes about the place, so working on my functional strength seemed to be a good idea...

(also being able to get up after a fall is an important not-dying skill)

For real tho, I lift heavy with low reps and after over a year of doing this I"m very strong but entirely unsupple or springy, or fast, almost as if ones body adapts to the specific demands placed on it, groundbreaking
Just come back from a run (lol, a run walk run, my first attempt in about a month), and wow yeah I really am just a lumbering 90kg slab. Maybe my gym being out of action is a good excuse to mix up my exercise a bit
Even when I was running it was more of a gentle jog and 5 mins of that last me gasping. I can bench 100kg but can't move faster than a brisk walk without wheezing, excellent work here
Also, again with the v 40 something toots, but I have bilateral ulnar impingement as well as sciatica and have developed RSI in my right thumb (thankfully, if surprisingly, not my pipetting hand), so cooling it on the 'lifting heavy things in a repetitive motion' habit might also be a good idea
@phil Yes, instead focus on repetitively apply a thumping action to your hips, knees and ankles for up to an hour (or even four!) until they turn to powder. Dr Cook Top Tips 👍🏻🥴
@phil I’m trying really hard to do a good mix of things, I don’t really like strength training but I’m forcing myself to do it… I’d rather just do running and static biking with a bit of yoga. I really should do more core work. There’s not enough days in the week!
