It’s Sunday, May 14th

It’s a great day to start taxing the churches

@flexghost This:

According to the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA, the total income of all religious organizations in the United States was $135 billion in 2019. The largest religious denomination in the United States is the Catholic Church, which had an income of $33 billion in 2019. The second largest denomination is the Southern Baptist Convention, which had an income of $16 billion in 2019.

@IrwinFletcher0 we need to talk about the Catholic and the Mormon churches real estate holdings
@RushGirl I like all that text but you had me at church
@RushGirl @flexghost I don't really care what their Church does. I just want that separation of church and state that we were promised in the Constitution.
@flexghost is this Tampa?
@Highlandista near trumps Miami resort
@flexghost Its nice to see. I’m in SW Florida and SURROUNDED by legions of wilfully misinformed neo fascists . I cherish any opportunity to connect with other sane fans of democracy when I’m here.
@flexghost Yes, when they use that tax-free money to sway politics.
@flexghost It's a great day to start telling the churches to quit lying about what the Bible says...
@flexghost I go back and forth on the issue of taxation. I don't have a problem with religious orgs being tax exempt as long as they don't engage in any sort of politicking from the pulpit. That's how it was supposed to be under the Johnson Amendment, but several organizations—primarily Christian evangelical organizations—have apparently started ignoring that law, merging far-right politics with their flavor of Christianity. Those organizations should be stripped of their tax exempt status.

@slcw
I have a big problem with religious organizations being tax exempt.

They’re businesses.

They’re selling a product and making a profit, even if they’re literally selling vapor ware.

@flexghost the second boat should say stop worshipping some bullshit, imaginary king which is antithetical to democracy!
@flexghost Religion itself is not compatible with democracy. It's one of the three columns of patriarchy.
@flexghost love this ballsy poster
@flexghost
Matthew 24:24

@flexghost

I've shut up a shit load od pastors just saying Matthew 24:24. I used to have a sign saying that at my front door to discourage proselytizers from knocking at my door.

@flexghost This looks like a billboard critical of republicans, but irony is dead so who knows?
@InorganicFella do Christian’s get irony or do they just get angry?
@flexghost I don't know! It hurts my head! I just want to go for a boat ride now.
@InorganicFella does that mean weed?
@flexghost No, I don't get much pleasure from intoxicants besides coffee.
@flexghost The gun-toting, Bible-thumping right-wing nutjobs quote specific parts of the Bible that suit their ideology. I know real Christians who are peaceful, polite, loving, nonviolent and kind individuals. They read the Bible in its entirety.
