V 'hello I am in my 40s' toot, but a few months back I started sitting on the floor a lot more and getting up without using my hands and I'm really noticing better flexibility and strength, would recommend

I'm strong in a very specific limited way, but also I'm about 90kg and my body is mostly a dopey hulk which crashes about the place, so working on my functional strength seemed to be a good idea...

(also being able to get up after a fall is an important not-dying skill)

@phil I really struggle with getting up off the floor, maybe I should try doing this. I find it hard to get up off my meditation cushion, I have to get onto my knees first #Nearly50

@purplepadma I swing myself onto my knees then put a foot forward and kinf of 'lunge' up. I wass honestly surprised to find I could do it since my usual method was to get on all fours and push myself up from there

@purplepadma I work a lot on my balance, too (ie I stand on one leg a lot, I've got so used to it now that I often talk to people while on one leg and swinging the other about, I must look a sight). My mum is very keen on all this as her mum died after a sudden fall (it took a year, but she was never the same afterwards). Balance just... goes, as age comes on
@phil Balance is something I have never really had, it was an early indication of my dyspraxia that I could not stand on one leg as a child. It makes a lot of yoga and barre poses very difficult for me. I worry about falling when I’m older
