Ahhhhhhh 😎

Sunny morning. Quiet early morning train. Perfect.

And I’m on a double track mainline *that’s not electrified* AGAIN. This time Lichtenfels - Kulmbach - Hof

When @schienenallianz says Germany needs to electrify main lines, they could just basically put “Bavaria” instead. Because apart from 1 line in each of Schleswig Holstein and ThĂŒringen, the rest of the priority projects are ALL here!

Mechanical points at Stammbach. Yep, someone in a signal box still has to shift levers by hand here.
@jon stellwerke.info knows of 621 active mechanical boxes in Germany, so presumably in the range of 200 stations, block posts, etc.
@partim I’d wager half of them are in Bayern!
@jon Skimming over the start of the list, the east seems to dominate.

@jon Hang on, I found the advanced filters. Here’s the numbers be DB Netz regions:

Nord 89
Ost 22
West 47
SĂŒdost 211
SĂŒdwest 47
SĂŒd 90

(SĂŒdost is southern East Germany, Bavaria is SĂŒd.)

@partim that it's high in Sachsen isn't that surprising actually, thinking about it. So many branch lines, mostly unrenovated...
@jon Probably also plenty main lines. East Germany didn’t have the resources to upgrade and then infrastructure austerity happened.
@partim hmm, if on main lines too I don't know which. I am on the Hof - Zwickau - Dresden main line right now, and this one was upgraded properly. Perhaps Dresden - Görlitz still - I will check later :-)
@jon That one seems to have been upgraded as well. Cottbus – Görlitz would be candidate, also Leipzig – Cottbus.
@jon Turns out there’s one very close to you: Neukölln Gbf on Ringbahn.
@partim that’s less than 1km from home!
